The Museum of Old and New Art has really got their bases covered.

Do you avoid going to museums because your sober brain can’t make sense of anything? Do people annoy you when you’re sober? Do people annoy you when they’re sober? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the Museum of Old and New art is the museum for you! It's located inside a winery and seriously, this museum is a party. They host an annual festival called MOFO which is short for MONA FONA (probably not what you were gonna guess) which is short for Museum of Old and New Art: Festival Of Music and Art. MOFO is curated by Brian Ritchie, bass player of the Violent Femmes. Australia sounds fun.

MONA is a pretty new museum, having officially opened just in 2001. Despite being a baby museum, it is not without intrigue. The museum has deep dark secrets inside. By that I mean, it looks like a one story building from the outside but it actually has three more stories that exist underground and is intentionally “ominous.” Founder David Walsh said part of the reason for the secret underground stories was to preserve the rustic area where the museum lives, but the real reason was that he wanted the museum to “sneak up” on guests and create a “sense of danger," an experience every art enthusiast is obviously looking for in a museum.

But David Walsh can make it whatever he wants it to be because he’s a rich guy who needed a building for his art collection, which is all this really is.

The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is an art museum located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere. MONA houses ancient, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection. Noted for its central themes of sex and death, the museum has been described by Walsh as a "subversive adult Disneyland".

MONA was officially opened on 21 January 2011. Along with its frequently updated indoor collection, MONA also hosts the annual MOFO and Dark MOFO music and arts festivals which showcase large-scale public art and live performances.
